Chairmans Challange 2024
Saturday 27th July saw the occasion of our inaugural 'Chairman's Challenge' competition.
Devised by Beacon Archers Chairman Ian Macaulay, the event was engineered to include and be accessible to as many members as possible.
In the planning, the key consideration was that the competition be relaxed, informal, and fun - and it certainly delivered on all fronts!
Blessed with good weather, archers of all abilities, ages, seasoned or novice stood on the line gripping bows of all types. Cleverly, the shooting groups had been pre-allocated, meaning archers spent time with folk they perhaps hadn't shot with before, and consequently, some firm friendships were forged.
24 arrows at 40 yards, followed by 24 arrows at 30 yards, ensured the competition wasn't overly grueling or intimidating to newer members but remained an interesting test for those with a bit more experience.
The addition of "side awards," including "Daisy Cutters," "Best Gold," "Lumberjacks," and "Petticoats," kept every end fun and varied. With 30+ archers taking part from the broadest sweep of our membership - the shooting range was a sight to behold, with the sound of laughter and good-natured banter the soundtrack to it all.
The entire event was deemed a terrific success - perhaps best summed up by the willingness of all involved to pitch in to help set-up and take down the field, and the efforts of others working tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure its smooth delivery on the day. Any archery club in the world would've been proud of the outcomes - every box ticked. Yet another indicator of the robust health of Beacon Archers.
